Any dental practice that has suffered data loss will know the extreme affect it can have on your business. Loss of data can be experienced due to corruption, hardware failure, fire or even theft. That’s why at Software 4 Dentists, data security and backups are strongly emphasised and we provide a number of tools to ensure your dental software is always properly and safely backed up.  How do we do that?

Firstly, for our cloud customers, we perform a daily backup of ALL the data stored within the software, including everything that may be attached to patients records such as letters, scanned images, signed treatment plans etc. The backup is stored on a separate server especially designed for this purpose.

Secondly, for customers who choose to run their dental software on their own local hardware, we perform a daily off-site backup of your Bridge-IT data across the internet. This happens seamlessly, so the backup takes place even whilst you are using the software. So if your own server fails for some reason, it is a simple matter to restore the latest data to a new machine.

Thirdly, there is a warning facility in the ‘Practice Settings’ so that when exiting the software, if a backup has not been done recently, the software will warn you, asking if you want to perform a backup now and taking you directly to the backup facility. This option is turned on by default. This means that in addition to the off-site backup, you can take your own data backup to an external drive or USB key.

Not to be overlooked is the security of your data. That’s why we encrypt ALL backups using military grade AES-256 bit encryption, so in the event someone steals an external hard drive, the data would be completely protected from hackers.

To help your practice implement a rock solid backup strategy please see our forum post ‘How to configure your Bridge-IT backups” here or give us a call on 0800 612 4875.
